papaya

Papaya is a plant that is fast-growing, growing in a short amount of time to 10m in height. It is a thin, greyish-coloured, turgid stem and huge leaves shaped by multiple lobes. Three varieties of papaya can be distinguished. Some are feminine flowers, others sporting masculine flowers and others with hermaphrodite flowers. The fruit is a wonderful fruit with a yellowish hue with a juicy and sweet pulp.
Papaya is part of the Caricaceae family. Its scientific title is Carica papaya. It is a massive plant that is fast growing and is able to live for a very short time. Stems are thin, tough, round smooth, spongy succulent, hollow, and of grey colour and are generally straightforward, but they can also have grown into branches. It is approximately 2 to 10m tall and 10-30cm in width. It is hardened by massive scratches caused by the falling of inflorescences and leaves.

The leaves are dissected, and are arranged in the apex of the branches and trunk; they are distinguished by having a large petiole. They range from 25 to 75 centimeters in size and comprise 7-11 large lobes. The upper portion of the leaf has a vibrant dark green or yellowish-green colour and the lower part is a light yellowish green color. The petiole’s length is about 25-100cm long and 0.5-1.5cm in the diameter.

The plants in this species are part of three distinct varieties: those that are female flowers, the ones that have masculine flowers and the kind that has hermaphrodite flowers.

It is an oval or pear-shaped berry. It’s large, fleshy, delicious and with a greenish yellow and yellow or yellow-orange color. The pulp is the colour of reddish or orange and has many seeds. It is between 10 and 25 cm long and has a diameter of greater than 15cm wide.
